When China Called: About

Two years ago today, I finished writing a book chronicling my unbelievable trip to the People's Republic of China. One of my quick-witted guides at the time came up with the title "CHINA: my first trip, alone, and on vacation".

The title of the book, perhaps unintentionally, appreciated the opinions of avid travelers who differentiate the definition of traveling from that of vacation. Despite some beautifully insightful books on how to tempt publishers, fortunately for you all, no avail.

Looking back now, what comes to mind is the effort I invested into carefully assessing agents and publishers who, I believed, may resonate with the book. PW is one of many resources I delved into for hours at a time.

When I finally decided to share with others that I'm going to China, some nine months after I booked my flight(s), I was met with some skepticism. "Tell me at least you're going to the Great Wall!" exclaimed one. "The food stinks" warned another.

The waves of discouraging chants intensified. The only answer I could think of was "why not!?" I've had ample time to get my self psychologically ready for the trip. Ironically, at some point along the way I had genuinely forgotten why China.

Now, I make the content available to you in an electronic format.

            To be continued...
